Valentine’s Day, Dinner Done! style (Tampa)

She says:
Just wanted to write a quick post about our fabulous Valentine’s Day at home, thanks to Dinner Done!. Dinner Done! is one of those places where each month they have a menu of about 15 items that you prepare at their location and freeze for later. They also offer to-go items and limited delivery. For holidays they run specials. For instance, for Thanksgiving they have something called Everything But the Turkey, where all you have to do is make the turkey. You buy all of your sides and desserts pre-assembled and ready to cook. For Valentine’s Day they offer pre-assembled meals ready to cook and we think it really beats the pants off going out.

I’ve attached the full Valentine’s Day menu so you can see all of the options.

We selected “Kiss Me Now” because Hubby doesn’t eat beef or lamb. We chose crab cakes as our appetizer and the lemon raspberry mousse cake dessert. We got four crab cakes with remoulade, four dinner rolls (with butter), a large salad, three chicken cutlets, plenty of mashed potatoes and asparagus, chopped parsley for garnish, and two lovely desserts. (For $39.50. TOTAL.)

We started our evening with some caviar and a bottle of Roederer Estate Brut (a graduation gift). We both highly recommend that wine. Excellent price point and very easy to drink.

I prepared the crab cakes next. Very simple: take them out of their container, put them in a hot pan with oil, saute for a few minutes on both sides, garnish, serve.

Next came the salad, which was even easier: plate, dress, serve.

After that I baked the rolls, along with the mashed potatoes and asparagus (in the pans they came in). While that was baking, I washed out my pan, put more oil in, and sautéed the chicken cutlets. When the cutlets were done, I set them aside, poured the sauce in the hot pan, and let it thicken for a few minutes before adding the chicken back. Plate and serve!

Dessert was the easiest: take them out of the freezer, put them on plates, let them thaw about 30 minutes, serve. We had a sour beer with our cakes and it was a perfect pairing.

My only complaint with DD is that the Valentine’s menu is the same every year. BUT it is nice to do every couple of years because you avoid the crowds and save a ton of money. I recommend Dinner Done! in general, not just for Valentine’s Day.
